Asymmetrical Diode Clipper for Tube Amplifier Emulation
Drawing preview
El escenario

Designing an asymmetrical clipping stage to recreate the warm distortion of a tube amplifier in a solid-state pedal or preamp. The circuit uses one diode for positive signal clipping and two series diodes for negative clipping, producing asymmetrical waveform shaping.

Qué hay en este dibujo

Lee las decisiones que hay detrás.

01

Use a 1N4148 single diode for positive clipping threshold (~0.7V).

02

Use two 1N4148 diodes in series for negative clipping threshold (~1.4V).

03

Connect a 100k load resistor from the clipping node to ground to establish a bias path.

Suitable for guitar effects pedals, overdrive circuits, and preamp stages where tube-like saturation is desired without actual tubes.
