Passive Stereo Splitter with Isolation Transformers

The scenario

A recording studio needs to split a stereo line-level signal to two pairs of powered monitors without creating ground-loop hum. Passive transformer isolation keeps each output galvanically separated.

What is in this drawing

Read the decisions behind it.

01

Use parallel transformer primaries on each input channel to split the signal after the source, not resistive Y-splitting.

02

Add a 10k load resistor across each transformer secondary to emulate monitor input impedance and keep outputs stable.

03

Keep output returns floating (not tied to chassis ground) to preserve galvanic isolation.

Reuse when designing passive audio distribution for balanced or unbalanced line-level signals where ground loops between monitor pairs are a risk.
