ERD

Radiology imaging orders database

This radiology imaging orders ER diagram separates a clinician’s imaging request from the completed study and its clinical interpretation. The order identifies the patient, requesting provider, modality, and priority. When imaging is performed, a study with a unique accession number fulfills that order and contains one or more series. A report records the radiologist’s interpretation and signing status.

CASE ANALYSIS

Scenario

A radiology system must distinguish a request for imaging from the acquired study, its series, and the interpretation report.

Key decisions

  • Orders identify the requesting provider and patient.
  • Accession number is unique for each performed study.
  • A study may contain many series.
  • Report status and signature time support draft and final interpretations.
  • The signing radiologist is a Provider foreign key.

When to reuse this

This schema is a compact RIS/PACS-oriented model. Interoperability, image storage, scheduling, and clinical privacy requirements need additional design.
