A medium-voltage bus supplies an electric arc furnace with fluctuating reactive power and harmonic distortion. An SVC combines fast thyristor-switched capacitors, a continuous thyristor-controlled reactor, and tuned filters to stabilize voltage and absorb harmonics.

Use anti-parallel SCR pairs for each TSC branch to enable fast capacitive switching.

Place tuned LC filters at the bus to mitigate 3rd, 5th, and 7th harmonic currents from the arc furnace.
Use this topology for medium-voltage industrial plants with large nonlinear loads, especially electric arc furnaces, where fast VAR control and harmonic filtering are required.
