What an activity diagram is.
An activity diagram shows the flow of control through a process. It starts with an initial action, follows activities and decisions, and ends when the process reaches a final state.
Use it to document system behavior or a business workflow when the important question is what happens next. Branches make alternate outcomes explicit, and loops show work that repeats until a condition is met.

Common questions
What is an activity diagram used for?
It visualizes the sequence of actions and decisions in a workflow, business process, or system behavior.
What should an activity diagram include?
Include a start, actions, decisions with labeled outcomes, any repeat path, and clear end states.
How do I show a decision point?
Describe the condition and what happens for each outcome. The flowchart can show that as a decision shape with labeled branches.
How is an activity diagram different from a sequence diagram?
An activity diagram focuses on the flow of work and decisions. A sequence diagram focuses on messages exchanged between participants over time.
