What a histogram is.
A histogram groups continuous numeric data into intervals called bins and shows the number of observations in each interval. Its bars touch because adjacent ranges represent one continuous scale, such as time, score, weight, or measurement.
Unlike a category bar chart, a histogram reveals the distribution's center, spread, gaps, and tails. Use equal-width bins when possible so bar heights can be compared directly, and label the numeric measure and frequency clearly.

Who uses histograms.
Service and delivery time distributions that distinguish common delays from a smaller group of severe exceptions.
Score distributions that show clustering and spread alongside the class average.
Measurement distributions for a sample of filled bottles, parts, or process outputs.

Common questions
What data do I need to make a histogram?
Use a list of numeric observations or a frequency table for numeric ranges. Times, scores, measurements, and sizes are common examples.
How is a histogram different from a bar chart?
A histogram groups continuous numeric data into touching ranges. A bar chart compares separate categories, which normally have gaps between bars.
Can I set the bin width or number of bins?
Yes. Specify a bin width or the exact ranges you want, then use equal widths unless the analysis requires otherwise.
How many bins should a histogram have?
Use enough bins to show the shape without making random variation look meaningful. The right number depends on the amount and spread of data.
Can I export a histogram?
Yes. Export it as SVG, PNG, or PDF for a report, presentation, or further review.
