What an ER diagram is.
An ER diagram, or entity-relationship diagram, is a visual model of a database. It names the entities the system stores, the attributes on each entity, and the relationships between them.
Primary keys identify rows and foreign keys connect tables. Crow's-foot markers show whether a relationship is one-to-one, one-to-many or optional, so the design can be discussed before it is built.
