What a waterfall chart is.
A waterfall chart explains how a beginning value reaches an ending value through a sequence of positive and negative changes. Each floating bar begins at the running balance, which makes the effect of every gain or deduction visible.
Use it for a bridge with a meaningful order, such as revenue to profit or opening to closing headcount. It is less useful for unrelated categories that do not add up through a sequence.
