The drawing

What an economic graph is.

An economic graph turns a model into a picture. Its axes name the quantities being compared, and its lines show how a variable changes when another changes. Supply and demand, for example, meet at the market equilibrium.

The right graph depends on the question. Use supply and demand for one market, AD-AS for output and prices, IS-LM for goods and money markets, and a production possibilities frontier for trade-offs between two outputs.

How to make an economic graph in three steps.

Describe it

One paragraph is enough to start.

“Create a supply and demand graph titled Bay Roasters Coffee Bean Market with supply starting at $3 and rising by $0.50 per hundred bags, demand starting at $15 and falling by $0.50 per hundred bags, labelled axes for bags per week and price per bag, and consumer and producer surplus.”

FAQ

Common questions

What types of economic graphs can I make?

You can make supply-and-demand, AD-AS, IS-LM, production possibilities, Phillips curve, Laffer curve and cost-curve graphs. Describe the market or model and label the variables you want shown.

How do I create an economic graph?

State the model, what each axis represents, and the change you want to show. For example, describe a drop in coffee supply or an interest-rate policy change, then refine the labels or curves.

What does an equilibrium point show?

It marks the combination of values at which the relationships in the model balance. In a supply-and-demand graph, it is the price and quantity where quantity supplied equals quantity demanded.

Can I customize an economic graph?

Yes. Ask to change curve labels, axis labels, intercepts, scale or highlighted points so the graph matches the assumptions in your exercise or analysis.
