What a family tree is.
A family tree is a diagram of family relationships arranged by generation. A couple is joined together, their children appear below them, and siblings share the same parent branch. This structure makes relationships such as grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins easier to trace.
Start with the oldest relatives you know, then add each partner and child to the relevant branch. Keep one generation on each level so the diagram stays legible as the family grows.
