The drawing

What a wiring diagram is.

A wiring diagram shows the physical connections between components: where each wire starts, where it ends, and how power and ground are shared. Unlike a schematic, it is arranged around the actual parts and connection points.

For a small electronics build, a breadboard wiring diagram helps you assemble and inspect the circuit before you power it. Check component ratings and the manufacturer's pinout before connecting hardware.

FAQ

Common questions

What is a wiring diagram?

A wiring diagram shows how components are physically connected. It focuses on wire routes, terminals and pin connections rather than abstract circuit logic.

How is a wiring diagram different from a schematic?

A schematic uses standard symbols to show electrical function. A wiring diagram shows the practical layout and connections used to assemble or repair a circuit.

What should I include in a wiring diagram prompt?

Name the board and components, state the power supply, and list the pins or terminals that connect. Include values such as a resistor value where they matter.

Can I use it for mains wiring?

Use it for planning and documentation, but have mains work designed and checked by a qualified electrician under the applicable local rules.
