What a circuit diagram is.
A circuit diagram shows how parts are connected, not where they sit on the board. Each part has a standard symbol and a value, and every line is a wire, so you can trace current from the supply, through the parts and back to ground.
It is the drawing you build from, debug from and hand in with a lab report. Two people reading the same schematic should wire the same circuit.

Lab circuits and homework schematics with a value on every part, ready to paste into a report.
Chargers, sensors and relay boards drawn before you solder, so the wiring is checked before the iron is hot.

Common questions
What is a circuit diagram?
A simplified drawing of the components and connections in an electrical circuit, using standardized symbols. It shows how current flows from a power source through components like resistors, capacitors, switches and LEDs, and back to ground. Engineers, students and technicians use circuit diagrams to design, build, troubleshoot and document electrical systems.
What do circuit diagram symbols mean?
A long and short parallel line is a battery, a zigzag (US) or rectangle (IEC) is a resistor, two parallel lines are a capacitor, a triangle with a bar is a diode, and a circle with a filament is a lamp. Switches are a break in the line with a movable contact. Standards like IEEE 315 and IEC 60617 define these so any engineer can read the drawing.
What is the difference between series and parallel circuits?
In a series circuit, components sit end to end in a single path, so the same current flows through every one and a single failure breaks the circuit. In a parallel circuit, components connect across the same two points, so each branch works on its own. Most real circuits combine both.
What is the difference between a circuit diagram and a wiring diagram?
A circuit diagram, or schematic, uses symbols to show electrical connections and is what you build or analyse from. A wiring diagram shows the physical layout and routing of the actual wires and is used during installation. A block diagram shows the system at a higher level without individual parts.
How do I draw a circuit diagram?
Describe the circuit: the supply, the parts with their values, and what connects to what, for example 'an LED with a 330 Ω resistor on a 9 V battery'. The schematic is drawn for you. Then ask for changes, such as adding a part or changing a value, instead of redrawing it.
Can I draw a circuit diagram online for free?
Yes. It runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install. You need a free account to generate a drawing, and no card is asked for.
What can I export?
SVG, PNG or PDF at any size, or a share link. That covers lab reports, homework, documentation and slides.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one. No card is asked for, and you can start drawing as soon as you have signed in.
