What event tree analysis is.
Event tree analysis is a forward-looking method that starts with an initiating event and follows the success or failure of ordered barriers. Each path ends in a consequence scenario.
It helps a team see how detection, isolation, containment and response layers change the outcome. Failure probabilities belong to the initiating event and barrier functions, not to the outcome rows.

Who uses event tree analysis.
Release scenarios that make the role of detection, isolation and mitigation barriers explicit.
Fire scenarios that compare outcomes as alarms, sprinklers and fire-service response succeed or fail.
Continuity scenarios that show how UPS, generators and transfer switching protect a critical load.

Common questions
What is event tree analysis?
It is an inductive risk-analysis technique that begins with an initiating event and maps the consequences produced by successive barrier successes and failures.
How is it different from fault tree analysis?
A fault tree works backward from an undesired event to its causes. An event tree works forward from an initiating event to possible outcomes.
Where do probabilities go?
Set a frequency for the initiating event and a failure probability for each barrier. The paths derive their frequencies from those values.
Why are some paths pruned?
Once a consequence is determined, later barriers no longer change it. A pruned path keeps the diagram focused on meaningful branches.
