What a PERT chart is.
A PERT chart is a project network used to organize activities and the dependencies between them. It helps teams see the order of work, parallel paths and the sequence that determines the finish date.
PERT can also use three estimates for a task: optimistic, most likely and pessimistic. Those estimates make uncertainty explicit when a single duration would be misleading.

Common questions
What is a PERT chart?
A project-management network that organizes activities, durations and dependencies so the project sequence can be analysed.
What does PERT stand for?
Program Evaluation and Review Technique, a method developed for planning and reviewing complex project schedules.
How does three-point PERT estimation work?
For each activity, estimate an optimistic, most likely and pessimistic duration. The three values provide a weighted expected duration and show uncertainty.
What is the difference between PERT and a Gantt chart?
PERT emphasizes dependencies as a network. A Gantt chart emphasizes task bars against a calendar or timeline; both can describe the same project.
