What a sunburst chart is.
A sunburst chart displays a hierarchy as concentric rings. The inner ring contains parent categories, and each outer ring breaks a parent into its children.
Arc size represents a value, so the chart shows both structure and relative contribution. It works best for two or three hierarchy levels with a limited number of labelled children.

Common questions
What is a sunburst chart?
A hierarchical chart made of concentric rings, where each ring represents a deeper level and each arc represents a category’s value.
When should I use a sunburst chart?
Use one when you need to show parent-child relationships and proportions at the same time, such as a portfolio, budget or file structure.
How many levels work well in a sunburst chart?
Two or three labelled levels are usually easiest to read. More levels or many tiny categories can make labels crowded.
What is the difference between a sunburst and a pie chart?
A pie chart shows one level of categories. A sunburst chart adds rings to show how each category divides into nested subcategories.
