What a relationship chart is.
A relationship chart maps the connections among people, teams or organizations. Nodes name the participants, and labelled links show what kind of connection they have, such as family care, mentoring, communication or shared work.
Unlike a family tree or an org chart, it is not limited to one relationship type. Use the labels and direction of each link to make clear who supports, advises, reports to, contacts or disagrees with whom.

Common questions
What is a relationship chart?
A relationship chart is a visual map of the connections between people, groups or organizations. It uses nodes and labelled links to make roles and interactions easier to understand.
What relationships can I show?
You can show family ties, mentoring, support, communication, collaboration, referrals, authority, conflict or any other relationship that matters to the situation.
How do I create a relationship chart?
Name the participants, then describe the important connections and their direction. For example, say who mentors whom or which service refers a person to another team.
Is a relationship chart the same as a sociogram?
A sociogram is a relationship chart focused on social choices and group dynamics. A relationship chart can also cover practical, professional or care relationships.
Can I use a relationship chart for work?
Yes. It is useful for mentoring, collaboration, stakeholder communication and support networks where formal reporting lines do not tell the whole story.
