What stakeholder mapping is.
Stakeholder mapping is the practice of identifying the people and groups connected to a project, then showing the relationships that shape its decisions. A map can include sponsors, authorities, delivery teams, suppliers, users and affected communities.
The point is not to rank everyone with a single score. It is to see what each relationship requires: an approval, a contract, a consultation, a review, a service handoff or a response to a concern.

Common questions
What is a stakeholder map?
A stakeholder map is a visual representation of the people and groups connected to a project, with links that explain their roles, influence, dependencies or concerns.
Who should be included in stakeholder mapping?
Include people or groups that make decisions, provide resources, deliver work, use the outcome, regulate it or are materially affected by it.
How do I make a stakeholder map?
Start with the project and list the decision-makers, delivery teams, partners and affected groups. Then label the important relationships, such as approval, funding, consultation or conflict.
When should I update a stakeholder map?
Update it when the scope, decision path, delivery partners or affected communities change. It should reflect the current project, not only the initial plan.
What is the difference between a stakeholder map and an org chart?
An org chart shows formal reporting lines. A stakeholder map shows the wider project relationships across organizations, communities and decision forums.
