What a motor control diagram is.
A motor control diagram shows the low-voltage control logic that tells a motor starter when to run or stop. It usually includes start and stop controls, a contactor output, overload protection and any permissives or feedback.
It is not the power circuit drawing. The ladder diagram explains the sequence and conditions behind the starter, while a power drawing shows the conductors and protective devices feeding the motor.

What is included in a motor control diagram?
Typical elements are start and stop controls, a contactor or starter coil, overload contacts, auxiliary contacts, selector switches and indicator outputs.
What is an overload contact?
It is a protective contact associated with a motor overload device. In a control rung it is commonly used to stop the starter command after an overload trip.
What does HOA mean?
HOA means hand-off-auto. The selector allows a motor to run manually in hand, remain off, or run from an automatic request.
What is the difference between power and control wiring?
Power wiring carries the motor current. Control wiring or ladder logic carries the commands and conditions that operate the starter.
