A value stream map shows the end-to-end flow needed to deliver a product or service. It combines process steps with the waiting, inventory, information, and timing around them, so a team can distinguish work time from lead time.

Start with the current state and record observed cycle times, queues, and handoffs. Then use the map to design a future state with clearer signals, less waiting, or a more continuous flow.
