What a decision matrix is.
A decision matrix compares options against a shared set of criteria. Each criterion receives a weight, each option receives a score, and the weighted total makes the ranking and its assumptions visible.
It is useful when no single criterion should decide the outcome. The matrix does not replace judgment: define the scoring scale and any non-negotiable requirements before treating the ranking as a recommendation.

Common questions
What is a decision matrix?
It is a table that scores options against weighted criteria and calculates a ranking from the scores.
How do I choose criteria weights?
Agree on which criteria matter most before scoring options, then give the most important criteria higher weights.
What does a high score mean?
Define it consistently before scoring. Usually it means the option performs more favorably on that criterion.
Can a weighted matrix handle mandatory requirements?
Use mandatory requirements as pass-or-fail gates in addition to the weighted scores, not as a reason to overlook a disqualifying issue.
